Did You Know Then

This was written for Entrei, who at that time was Azure's husband , upon the day he became a legend within the Lands of Elanthia. She sang it for him and all of Elanthia during a party, honoring his achievements.

Azure smiles and steps forward drawing her mandolin over her shoulder. It's warm wood glistens in the light and her fingers begin to absently strum upon the strings as though merely testing it's tone. First, she looks at you, then her gaze moves to rests gently upon Entrei for a moment before it sweeps over those others present.

Azure recites:

I have a gift for m'lord, if you would all be so kind to indulge me.
It is not something you can hold, nor something that is very costly,
Yet it is the gift that I can give.

The bardess smiles wistfully, then settles to play the instrument in her hands. The music gives you the impression of strength yet at the same time the melody is sweet. As she plays the introduction an elven flautist steps from the crowd, playing softly behind her and creates a harmony with the mandolin.

Azure sings:

In a dark courtyard silence falls,
A young knight kneels and swears all,
Courage runs through his veins,
And his hazel eyes gaze without a stain.

Her eyes glisten as she gazes upon her love, then smiles softly at him.

Azure sings:

Tell me, Entrei, did you know, then, what would be?
As the stars shone above you and you bent your knee?
Did you know what a legend others would see?
Somewhere, a minstrel must have played for thee.

For a moment Azure's violet eyes dance with mischief, then her song continues.

And time flows, my darling, but always you shine.
Younglings, with boxes, formed a great line.
Others, your blessing, they would find.
These things would label you kind.

Yet when the earth trembles,
And the sky grows dark with troubles,
Your sword is raised to battle the foes,
And there are stories in your throes.

As lords fell from the undead hordes,
There you were and into their midst you did ford.
A symbol you cast, within the fight, to preserve,
Even as your blade was raised, the light to serve.

Tell me, m'lord do you recall,
How it was that a halfling did fall?
Evil he was yet you answered his unholy call,
E'en in your death you sent him to greater halls.

Look all of you assembled here,
Gaze upon a legend that lives without fear.
Strong yet kind he stands.
Gods look down and touch him with the brightness of our lands.

Do any here recall a night,
When into the crypt he went to fight,
There he stood and added to Blade's might,
And Xarann's darkness was lost to the light.

There is more, oh so much more,
Tis this bard's right to set down the lore.
For this elf has opened the door.

Azure points upward into the dark sky of the night. For a moment your attention is drawn there and you see a great light streaking across the sky. You realize that it is a comet, it's tail of bright and blazing colors lays a strong path and it is hard to pull your eyes from it's beauty. After a moment the comet rests and twinkles above, a new star that will shine always. Her gaze returns to Entrei and she peers at him curiously.

"Look you, there, a star streaks to the fore.

Azure sings:

Tell me, Entrei, did you know, then, what would be,
As the stars shone above you and you bent your knee?
Did you know what a legend others would see?
Now, a minstrel does play for thee.
